We got to see our first game of the season last night in a chilly Kauffman Stadium where the Royals played the Minnesota Twins hoping to end an 8 game losing streak. I neglected to bring a jacket, unlike my wise friends. Luckily it was Hot Dog Derby T-Shirt night, so I used that for a blanket most of the evening.
The highlight of the night, and honestly one of the most exciting moments in my live sports viewing history was when Mark Teahen hit an inside the park 3-run homerun in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game 3-3. The Royals ended up losing in 12 innings, but at least it was an exciting ending.
We also got to see the new scoreboard/video screen for the first time last night and it was pretty impressive. It’s so much easier to see everything.
Lastly, since I’m a big Manny Ramirez fan, I can’t post about baseball without acknowledging his 499th career homerun last night in Seattle.
I’m really, REALLY not obsessed with American Idol. I’m not even set on watching it every week. In fact, I just told Bethanie a couple days ago that even after they’d narrowed this contest down to the two Davids, I’d really be content with life if I never found out which one of them ended up winning. That said, last night was the season finale and I knew the world would be waiting on my comments.
I thought Simon was unreasonably hard on David Cook. Cook’s last song “The World I Know” was fantastic. On top of that, since when does Simon (or any of the other judges) let someone get by with doing a song they’ve previously done in the competition? I mean, “Imagine” was great, but probably only as great as it was the first time Archuleta sang it. I’d still probably declare the David A the overall winner of the night, but only slightly ahead of David C.
Between the convenient timing of the judges drinks from their “Coca-Cola” cups and awkwardly working “Nokia” into their sentences at the beginning of the show, I’m beginning to think this show is less about talent and more about selling advertising. Call me crazy. 🙂
Well, I never thought I’d see a posting about American Idol on my blog, but it’s what I was thinking about today. Well, that and the story of the missing parrot that told the vet it’s own name and address. Nice.
